Introduction – “A disaster that hit before the earthquake?”
On January 12th, 2010 Haiti experienced an earthquake that would be remembered by the world. An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 has managed to destroy several buildings resulting in many deaths (CNN Library, 2014). Haiti has lived through this disaster for so long and continues living in this struggle. But on the other hand, it seems that this was not the only reason for Haiti’s downfall; there were some man-made disasters to blame too. The issue in “Haiti’s Disasters: Natural and Man-Made” (R. Noriega, 2010) showcases that Haiti’s collapse was caused not only as a result of a natural disaster but due to man-made disasters as well. These man-made disasters have significantly affected Haiti as a nation through its politics and environmental aspects and this issue should be raised to us readers.

The timing of the article probably threw people from their comfort zone of being emotional towards Haiti. But Roger has showed the negatives of Haiti’s environmental and political impacts.
