1. Identify the legislation that relates to the recording, storage and sharing of information in health & social care.
To answer this you need to research these main legislations:
The Data Protection Act
Freedom of Information Act
Mental Capacity Act
Human Rights Act
For each, you need to research the year. You also need to explain what each of the Acts state with regards to recording, storage and sharing of information in health & social care.
I would also like you to research the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and explain their role in handling of information in the UK.
2. Explain why it is important to have secure systems for recording and storing information in a health & social care setting.
To answer this you need to explain with a good amount of information. Write about what type of information needs to be kept secure and why. Also refer to needing to comply with legislation and company policies & procedures – you will need to look at these to extract relevant information and include in your explanation.
Write about identity theft – what is this – how can this occur in a health & social care setting?
Write about individual’s (clients’ & staffs’) rights – how do these come in to handling of their personal data.
Also write about who has authorisation to view data? How does your company ensure that only the right people have access? Why?!
Write about different systems for recording and storing information in a paper-based form as well as computer-based.
3. Describe how to access guidance, information and advice about handling information.
To answer this, write it in order of who you would go to first, second, third etc…
