Harriet Tubman was a great female hero for her outstanding actions and life. Harriet was born to enslaved parents which is a common characteristic of the archetypal hero. The archetypal hero has “unusual circumstances of birth” which in Harriet Tubman’s case is being born into slavery. Another common characteristic of the archetypal hero is that “the hero must prove himself/herself many times”. In Harriet Tubman’s life she was able to prove herself many times. For example, she escaped slavery in 1849. She proved herself as more than just a slave by being “the first woman to lead an armed expedition in the war”.
