The George in “Harrison Bergeron” acts very nonchalant like he’s accepted and is okay with the way he is living. The George in 2081 is just the opposite. Hazel suggested that George take his weights off saying, “Why don’t you stretch out on the sofa, so’s you can rest your handicap bag on the pillows, honeybunch” with the reply of “I don’t mind it,” he said. “I don’t notice it anymore. It’s just a part of me” (2). The tone in George’s voice sounded like he didn’t really mind the weights. This sentence gives us a good understanding that George has accepted the way he is living. When George talks in the movie, there is emptiness and his tone of voice makes me feel like he does not want to accept this way of life. Also, George’s mood is significantly different. When he said “Forget sad things”(5) it was a little confusing for me. How could someone living like this ever be positive? In 2081 George acted drained and empty like there’s no more hope.
