In the short dystopian short, Harrison Bergeron, the author Kurt Vonnegut Jr incorporates characteristics commonly associated with dystopian literature by using symbols such as the metal handicap earpiece, constant surveillance, and restriction of freedom. The metal handicap earpiece represents dystopian characteristics because it is a device that dumb down people with an above average intelligence. The earpiece makes people instantly forget information therefore they can't find out secrets about the government.
