In “The Lottery”, Tessie was fine with the lottery until it was her that was to be stoned. She agreed with the system until it negatively affected her. This also happens a lot throughout history. The Nazis controlled Germany and everyone thought Hitler was great until he started killing off the Jews. In the American Revolution, the colonies were fine with Britain until they started to tax them an absurd amount. If people think that the system is right they do not act until they realize how much better it is being free. The story “Harrison Bergeron” says, “the year was 2081 and everyone was finally equal.” (Harrison Bergeron) In Harrison Bergeron, everyone thought it was good being equal and no one questioned it because that is what their country told them. But that prevents them from being free. If everyone is the same, then they can’t be free because they have no choices. It wasn’t until Harrison did what he did for people to realize that being free is better. In the story, George Bergeron did not want to take off his handicaps because it would give him an unfair advantage. Everyone in this society was okay with it except Harrison who experienced freedom and was willing to fight for it. This is how people are willing to fight for
