In 1840, Harry was sent to Australia for 7 years after stealing a saddle and a bridle, as well as obtaining and then using a hunter if Waterford, Ireland. He arrived at Hobart on the 21st of May in 1842, on the Isabella. 5 years later he received the ticket of leave on November, 1847, and was given the Certificate of Freedom in September, 1848.
With his new freedom, Power moved to Port Phillip and became a horse dealer in Jeelong. Soon, Harry Power was attracted by the gold in Victoria. He, Captain Melville and a couple of others were falsely accused of murdering two men and were found not guilty. Power was transferred to Pentridge stockade after two and a half years on the hulks but later escaped in 1862. Harry moved to the Oven district and helped the Kelly, Quinn and Lloyd families.
