Truman, a man of necessity, did what he thought he had to do, when he had to do it. From decisions such as the atomic bomb, to pulling the trigger in his time in combat, he was consistently making the tough decisions. Decisions that desperately needed to be made, but everyone else was afraid too. However, in order to know someone’s reasoning behind their actions, you have to get to know who they were. On May 8th, 1884, Harry S. Truman was born in the modest town of Lamar, Missouri. He had a brother Vivian, and a sister Mary Jane. His parent’s names were John Anderson Truman, (Father), and Martha Ellen Young Truman, (Mother). In the year 1890 Harry’s parents relocated the family to Independence, Missouri, which held a population of 6,000 people at the time. As a child, Harry was a bit of an awkward kid. He wanted friends so badly, but was uncomfortable with girls, older or younger. Also, as a result to his poor vision he also had to get glasses. He was known to be a very hard working student. He strongly desired to attend West Point, but due to his poor vision he was unable to do so. His father also struggled financially so he was unable to attend a four year university. He ended up attending a business college located in Kansas City for a semester. However, due to his father’s poor finances, he had to drop out. In 1902, Harry starting working in the mailroom of Kansas City Star. Afterwards, he worked for a construction company and also as a bank clerk. In 1905, Truman joined the National Guard. In 1906, Truman left to work on his family’s farm in Grandview, Missouri.
