Their speeches spoke volumes as they allowed more of their communities to come together and raise their voices to address and make an effort to fix the inequalities they faced. In summary, the impactful efforts of figures such as Harvey Milk and Amy Uyematsu highlight the role of hope, solidarity, and empowerment in the ongoing fight for equality and representation. These minorities needed leaders to unite these marginalized groups as pride in identity was limited by oppressive systems and this lack of identity and hope further advanced the inequalities they faced. To combat this, Amy Uyematsu and Harvey Milk stood up to not only use their voice but to give others alike the voice they never had. Although subjected to misrepresentation and inequality, these leaders brought together their communities demonstrating a communal resilience and pride which was necessary for change.
