I don’t really hate puppies, but the freedom of speech gives me the right to say so, no matter how much you disagree with it. The first amendment of the United State’s constitution is the freedom of speech and expression. This factors into the way American culture lives and thrives. Although some say free speech should be replaced by political correctness, the freedom of speech should not be suppressed because it is a fundamental right, helps develop individuality, and is a promotion of truth.

The First amendment opens a door for oneself to develop a sense of individuality. Agnar Pytte, president of Case Western University, once said that “Freedom of expression is the indispensable condition of all our liberties” (Pytte). The right to free speech is a vital part of the U.S; without being able to freely express oneself, that person is robbed of an opportunity to express their ideals. This correlates to the culture within the U.S. Nevertheless, they would never be as unique and distinctive as they are today, without the First amendment. Free speech also allows one to debate and converse, or to “Evaluate opinions in the light of ensuing debate” (Pytte). This means that when someone is stating their opinion, or idea, the freedom of expression grants that ability, without any repercussions. The First Amendment is a crucial part of the American way of life. The first amendment of the United States is a fundamental right, it helps develop individuality and is a promotion of truth. Many people believe that the freedom of speech should be abolished from the constitution, but it is an important part of the U.S. culture. The freedom of expression and free speech gives way to multiple opportunities to discuss one’s point of view. It also is a way for many individuals to experience and reflect upon others’ opinions and ideals. To perfectly summarize how important the freedom of speech is here is a quote from Evelyn Hall’s popular biography The Friends of Voltaire, “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say
