Color Theory - Here in Hawaii Essay Did you know that alii wore colors like red and yellow so people knew it was them? Artist Cory Taum expresses old Hawaiian stories that were told to him. Some of his art includes One Ocean, One People, Waa Uka, Kaulana Na Wai Eha, and Out of Darkness, which was born the light. They are magnificent pieces of art. For each piece, you can tell he uses no more than three colors. It helps his artwork by not looking too busy, but it gets the story across in color. Cory Taum uses color to highlight Hawaiian culture and its significance. To start, Cory Taum uses complementary colors black and white in his mural One Ocean, One People to help visualize the Hawaiian patterns clearly. The patterns in his mural help express more about how we are all connected because of the Pacific Ocean in one way or another. His way of painting Hawaiian tattoos and telling a story with them using some color is impressive. Next, he uses the analogous colors blue and green, to produce a strong mood in the water.
