The enemy continually being resupplied kept the American forces from gaining an upper hand within the battle. The North Koreans and Chinese resupply areas were located in Mundung-ni Valley. This area was slightly west of where the battle was taking place at Heartbreak Ridge which provided a rather easily assessable route for the enemy forces to regain supplies. The enemy forces in an attempt to prevent an attack on this area sent extra troops to the camps in the hopes of preventing any of the American forces attempts on this area. October 11 came around and American forces deployed their forces towards the area in hopes of finally stopping those resupplies to the North Koreans and Chinese forces. 30, M4 Sherman’s covered on the ground by artillery barrages and overhead by air support completely by chance were able to catch the 610th Regiment of the 204th Division of the Chinese forces out in the open. The American forces were able to take out the entire Chinese and North Korean forces in this area during their onslaught. The American forces continued their relentless attacks up on the enemy forces over the next two weeks taking out waves of the enemy sent to try and take out the American forces advancements. During that time the American Shermans were able to overrun and take out all of the enemy’s resupply depots. Doing this they were able to cut off the enemy forces that were holding out on Heartbreak Ridge essentially crippling any hopes the enemy had of being able to continue to hold the Ridge. When the American forces still stationed at Heartbreak Ridge were informed that the North Koreans and Chinese’s’ supply chains were finally cutoff they prepared for what they hoped would be their final attack on the remaining enemy forces.
