Helene Lebel, or nicknamed Helly, was a victim of the holocaust. She was raised with her younger sister in Vienna, Germany. Her mother was a Catholic and her father was Jewish but, died in action when she was five. Helene loved to swim and go to the opera. After finishing secondary education, she entered law school.

In 1933, when Helene was 19, she showed signs of mental illness and had to give up her job when it worsened. When she lost her precious dog, Lydi, she experienced a major breakdown. She was put in Vienna’s Steinhof Psychiatric Hospital. Then, the Germans annexed Austria to Germany.
