As mentioned in the case study, their implementation of VRE therapy derives from a form of exposure therapy colloquially named “helicopter ride therapy”. Helicopter ride therapy involves patients riding on actual Huey helicopters as part of their treatment (pg 263), something that for obvious reasons is not incredibly practical. VRE therapy negates the difficulty of obtaining a helicopter for exposure therapy, as well as allowing for the treatment to be conducted in the practitioner’s office under complete control of exposure stimuli (pg 263). Following the guidelines set forth by John Locke’s rights ethics, all people have a fundamental right to life. It can, as such, be argued that further development of VRE is a means of granting these veterans a method of regaining a greater standard of living, thus fulfilling their fundamental right to
