Name:

Henoch-Schonlein Purpura

Overview:

Henoch-Schonlein is a condition that can cause a rash, abdominal pain, and joint pain. The kidneys and other parts of the body can also be affected. It develops due to a reaction of the immune system, due in most cases, to an infection. Most people who get this condition are children. About 9 out of 10 people, Henoch-Schönlein heal of its own accord and will not require any specific treatment. But, various treatments may be proposed to help alleviate the symptoms. If the kidneys are affected, most people will have a full recovery within about four weeks, there will be no long-term problems.

Abdominal pain.
2. Joint pain.
Other parts of the body can be affected by other symptoms and complications. Another part of the body which is usually influenced, are the kidneys.
Causes:
Henoch-Schonlein is a condition of immune-mediated. This means that it is a condition that develops due to a reaction of the immune system. It is unclear exactly what causes this reaction, but it is thought that something acts as a trigger for Henoch-Schönlein. For example, there may be a particular infection to certain medications, such as some antibiotics.
The trigger acts as an antigen. The antigen stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies to attack it. These are then deposited in small blood vessels under the skin, causing inflammation of the blood vessels. (Inflammation of the blood vessels is known as vasculitis.) This is the inflammation that causes petechiae and purpura. The complexes immunatari can also be deposited in other body tissues, for example in the kidneys, causing inflammation in this area of the body.
Henoch-Schonlein is not common. Between 10 to 20 per 100,000 people develop this condition each year. For some reason, it is up to two times more common in males than in females.
Symptoms:
Flu-like
