HENRIETTA SWAN LEAVITT Henrietta Leavitt was a famous astronomer. She was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1868. She was the daughter of a minister. She attended Oberlin college. Later on she suffered an illness that left her severely deaf for the rest of her life. Although these things obviously did not make her famous there are other events that occurred to make her so well known. Even though she suffered from a terrible illness she pushed through and did great things. It all started when she volunteered to Harvard College observatory in 1895.
