Herbert Hoover “Older men declare war”. But it is the youth that fights and dies” is Hoover’s most famous quote. The quote explains how it is the old politicians of America that declare wars but expect the youth and the future generations of this country to go fight and risk their lives and even die for a decision they did not make. Herbert Hoover was the 31st President, was a multimillionaire, served as the Secretary of Commerce, and even was an International Humanitarian. After finding these things out, it sparked my interest in him and got me wanting to learn more about him as a person. He only lived with him for 6 years before he decided to leave and head off to work for his uncle and his real estate business. Later he then decided he was going to try and become a mining engineer, he set out to go back to school and so he applied to a new school. The school that he then applied to was none other than Leland Stanford Junior University. It was here at college where he, as many others do when they go off to college, made lifelong friends and even found a mentor here too, in Professor John Caspar Branner. College was a key part of Hoover's life because he met lifelong friends and a mentor, but those are not as important as the fact that he met his future wife Lou Henry. To pass his time there, he was involved in extracurricular activities such as managing both the baseball and football teams.
