Herd mentality affects the way we communicate and behave in society. Blind faith in authority is the root of religion, and has led to monarchy, fascism, and authoritarianism. Even conformity has its roots in authority-who do you listen to about what is “right” or “good”? These phenomena are even present in young children, which raises some questions-is it ethical to raise children to conform? And what does it say about our society that a “good” child is a child that obeys, and a “bad” child is one that doesn’t?
