Hex, I feel is the most complicated word to define thus far in this assignment. The german verb, hexen is the equivalent to saying simply “as practicing magic or sorcery”. Hexes as heavily associated as such can be used in a negative way but this is not always so. It is a protective magic. Many use hexes as a means to prevent another from hurting themselves or even others. As there is a German verb of similar sound and meaning, the term is one used in Amish traditions as well. A protective hex sign or symbol may be placed on the door of Amish homes to protect the members of such household and the visitors. The Hex Sign is placed on the outside of an Amish home or barn to protect all that is inside. The Hex here is a protective magick that is used to deter those with negative agendas to cause harm on the property and people or animals within the property. By using a positive spin on this we are stating the same thing as the negative idea of a hex. “ (1) This sums up in a lot of ways what a positive hex can be. As stated hexes may be negative, and some people chose not to use such because they believe that it is messing with the will of others which is something that is generally good. Using a hex in a positive way can do great lengths in reducing harm and doing such for the right reasons. It is a form of manipulation magic though at its core and it is at the utmost importance to keep this in mind. Much also of the negative nature associated with the term comes from history. If I was to wrap up all of the above into a simplistic term to say to others I would say what is to follow. “A hex is a form of manipulative magic.
