Dorothy uses king Solomon as a type of allusion in the story. In the story, it said “King Solomon couldn’t tell when we’d ever get a chance again” (122). That’s basically saying don’t take your life for granted.
Also in the stoty gran’ther said, “Gran’ther’s six dollars and forty-three cents lasted like the widows cursed oil.” (123). That means everything doesn’t last as long as you want it so, should live your life as happy as you can because you never know what’s going to happen. Through living life to your fullest the grandson learned to look at life in a different way. In ‘The Heyday of the Blood’ The merry-go-round showed the ups and downs in life and the risk you must take to get what you want. And uses king Solomon as allusion to say don’t take your life for granted and you don’t know when anything could happen.
