Poets tend to form poems that mirror their lives and its circumstances in numerous ways. The subject of detachment and separation are present in many poems, however it is demonstrated distinctively in accordance to the backgrounds of the writing. Through analysing, I will show the differences and similar features in the poems "La Belle Dame Sans Merci" by John Keats, "Remember" by Christina Rossetti, and "Hide & Seek" by Vernon Scannel. These three poems will likewise be compared relation to “The Seduction” by Eileen Mcauley, “The Fury of Abandonment” by Anne Sexton, and “I Am Learning To Abandon the World” by Linda Pastan.

In “The Seduction” the teenage girl is enticed, “As he brought her more drinks, so she fell in love” which in turn, is similar to the situation in "La Belle Dame Sans Merci", “She found me roots of relish sweet, /And honey wild and manna*-dew”. Both of these quotes display a sense of withdrawal and ease. Both protagonists let down their guard, which is the beginning of their downfall .It is additionally clear that the adversaries are throwing a mesmerizing trance over both of the protagonists. Separation and detachment are altogether different in both poems. In “The Seduction” the teenage girl becomes pregnant and is confined from the world, avoided by society. This is shown in the quote “Than to fall into this despicable, feminine void” which gives us the impression that she is secluded in a void that’s only occupied herself as she has no contact with society. "La Belle Dame Sans Merci" shows this by stating “On the cold hill’s side. /And this is why I sojourn here”. Showing as sense of aimlessly wandering, with no contact at all.
