The eighth grade capstone project allows students from Hawthorn Leadership School for Girl to develop their leadership skills, while contributing to their community. The people that were on my team were Aniya James, Shaniah Boone, and Kameahl Holmes. For our capstone project we were to paint a mural that celebrates diversity, all girls and also leadership because we wanted to create an impact on all 6th, 7th 8th, and 9th graders. Our project is important because celebrating these topics are really kind things to do because you never know what a girl is going through rather its being at school about their skin color or going through things at home so if we impact young women it will change lives. In this paper, I will discuss the purpose of our project, my personal role and experiences throughout the process, and my overall assessment of our final product.

We also did this to make the girls feel like their skin colors are not what is important it’s what count on the inside. My experience with the team was very challenging and fun at the same time. We had to go through a lot of different ideas and most/all of them failed. So finally we decided to paint a mural of 4 girl that all have different skin tones to celebrate diversity. Three of the takeaways from this experience are stay positive, never give up, and don’t be afraid tell my ideas if I’m in group. My mentor taught me this and they were a big help. Now I know not to give up, to stay positive and not to be afraid. I wanna give thanks to my Ms. Hercules because she led and helped us to all of our
