Since I was younger, I have always loved playing sports. I never thought playing sports in high school would be something I would want to do when I was little. Fortunately, sports have become a large part of who I am today.
Looking back, starting sports when I was younger was a huge stepping stone. I started soccer in Kindergarten and began playing rec for Roosevelt. As the following years came, I excelled and joined the club team for Basin United. I can remember how nervous I was at tryouts. That was my first time not knowing if I made it on the team. Luckily, I did, too. Playing on the club team was my first time playing with other girls who did not go to school. There was one point during middle school when I wanted to quit soccer. I was not enjoying it like I used to. The season had begun and I was unsure about continuing. My dad said I had to finish it before I could quit. The girls I would be playing with could all be older than me. The beginning of soccer was unusual because of COVID. We had to wear masks while we played. During our tryouts, everyone had to wear a mask and stay away from each other even though we were outside. Because of COVID and social distancing, I became more introverted than I already was. That changed when a senior on my team befriended me. She took me in, and we became good friends. Then became friends with her friends, who were also on the team. I felt more at ease and felt comfortable enough to open up at practice. As an underclassman, I wasn't starting immediately or anything. By working hard and pushing myself, I was able to move up.
