In “Higher Education’s Forgotten Aim” Steven Mintz claims today’s college education has abandoned its original intent of exploring the humanities, instead, the system has become an uninspiring stepping stone toward a narrowly fit credential. Using Cicero and Max Weber’s enlightening philosophies, Mintz discusses how educational priorities have greatly shifted with society changing its values toward practicality. This shift has dissolved consequential teachings that have reflected a decrease in fresh graduates' ability to function in everyday occurrences outside their profession. Although universities provide programs with opportunities to gain these experiences outside their work, they aren’t mandatory or encouraged, as the rest of the curriculum
