Bias is defined by Google as, “prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair.” (“Google”) Bias sadly comes in different forms which tends to be one-sided as we have seen recently with media outlets in the Presidential race. We can see that CNN has used self-perception biases to interpret recent scandals about the Presidential candidates. (Shaw, 2016) This is being used by the moderators who are using fact checking against Donald Trump and not Hillary Clinton which has caused a big uproar throughout society. Now, if you just muted the conversation and just watched the debate you can see that Hillary Clinton was captured in front of the people on the stage and Donald Trump was captured generally in front of the blue wall. This is a small detail but it’s a powerful statement. We can also see the expressions that were captured from both candidates. It seems like the camera crew made sure that they captured Donald Trump’s sour faces during the debate and made sure they only captured Hillary Clinton when she showed a professional pose. The moderators’ comments toward the candidates made it so viewers would be swayed towards the Hillary Clinton side. During the debate the moderators gave Hillary Clinton questions that pertained to the true issues at hand and Donald Trump was given questions that were related to the recent accusations about how he treats women. We can also see that Hillary Clinton had plenty of time to respond to her questions and to Donald Trumps’ accusations but Donald Trump was not allowed the same time.
