As I read chapter 1 from our text, Doing the Truth in Love, I noticed some similarities between our Tegrity lecture from last week and Himes last lecture in regards to our readings. In both Hime’s Last lecture and Chapter one from our book we are introduced to a concept called agape which refers to love and expecting nothing in return. In what I have learned over the years is to see God as a being and in Himes interpretation and his use of 1 John 4:18 is “God is love” (Himes, p. 10). Also, in his Last Lecture Himes discusses how love and self-gift also known as agape is the only reason why we or anything else exists. In many ways I found this interpretation as interesting because I had never thought to view God as something other than a being.
