It’s been reported that language is the biggest cause of discrimination, followed by being paid less, and limited career advancement opportunities. The Hispanic language is Spanish and for those individuals who do not speak said language; may have a hard time understanding what is being communicated. How has this impacted the older Hispanic community? I believe the majority of the elderly who migrated to the United States did not to learn the English language but instead had their children interpret what was being said to them. The communication strain can cause a distance between two communicators who become frustrated with one another and feel as if the other party is not worthy to be listened to.
Another example, was a lawsuit that challenged discriminatory hiring & firing practices targeting Latinos: “Gonzalez v. A.F. filed in the US District Court in San Francisco (settled 14 November 2004 for US $40 million), which alleged that ‘the "A&F Look" is designed to exclude employees of color'; and two US District Court suits filed by the Equal Employment and Opportunity Commission, which concluded in 2004 that Latino workers forced to speak only in English had been discriminated against based upon their national
