The Baby Boom
The term baby boom is used to describe a time frame when the number of births has been high as never before (Encyclopedia.com 1). This historical phenomenon has started just after the Second World War. The increase of the nascence was between 1946 and 1964. Nowadays baby boomers are middle-aged and seniors.
It is surprisingly how the humans after years of war have managed to overcome the depression and decided to bring up the new generation in a large quantity. People who were born in that time made up the 40 percent of the US population. Between 1954 and 1964 women gave birth to more than 4 million babies every year (Encyclopedia.com 1).
Historians still argue about the reasons why the baby boom began. First of all, the war ended and young people wanted to start their life from scratch. Another reason is that militaries returned home and the reconnected families …show more content…
According to the statistics, males had a rising income while women faced lowing wages. That shift forced families to take drastic measures. Actually, speculations on that topic are still seen.
The baby boom went hand in hand with the suburban boom. New-born families decided to move to little inexpensive houses situated outside the city limits. Thousands of such houses began to unite in communities. People say that sometimes all wives who lived on one street could be pregnant at the same time (U-s-history.com 3). In addition, it was cheaper for former militaries to buy a house in the outskirts of the city than to rent an apartment in the center.
The baby boomers are also known as the people with the significant spending power. With the growth of marketing and trade business people were able to afford to buy things. Thus, the everyday life looked abnormal. This is further shown by the fact that there were some events that have never occurred before.
