In 1977 the new creation of the Scharffen Berger Chocolates were made by the one and only Scharffer Berger, and were later founded by Robert Steinburg and John Scharffenberger a winemaker within that year in San Francisco. The Scharffen Berger Chocolates specialize in only dark chocolates. Their chocolates are made only with the combination of other cocoa beans, this excludes any extra substances or chemicals. The chocolate itself is then made by artisan facturing methods like making the chocolates in small portions. Scharffer was known not only for his chocolates, which are very well known, but also for being the first contemporary artisan chocolate manufacture. Until the year he passed away in 2008 Scharffer had a goal to make the best chocolate
