The Hittites were an ancient society that had an empire located in Anatolia, or Asia Minor (known today as Turkey). Throughout their rule, they faced extreme highs and a lot of success. Almost all the information that exists on the Hittites comes from recovered ancient texts. They were a very creative society, and do not receive full credit for all of their innovations. Despite their success however, they did eventually fail and their society fell apart. Most likely due to a bad combination of manmade and natural disasters.
Among the many innovations that Hittites did not receive notoriety for is their conduct of treaties and alliances. Hittite rulers practiced these with their neighboring states and were pioneers of diplomacy and international politics. Culturally, the Hittite Empire significantly advanced the west as well, becoming the first Indo-European civilization. It demonstrated that people were capable of changing their lives and improving their situations. When Telipinus established a court to handle issues with the King, he created the first semblance of a democracy within Indo-European cultures, changing government forever.

Their success was only understandable in a mythical sense, but people hoped it was due to their advancements with iron weapons. Fighting with iron gave the Hittites an edge against the bronze weapons of their enemies. Even though their exploits have been slightly embellished throughout time, the Hittites are created with discovering and utilizing iron technology. They also developed an innovative way to use the smelting process and produce not only iron tools, but weapons and ornamental objects as well.
