I viewed season 1 episode 6 of Hoarders. This episode, titled Patty/Bill, takes us first into the life of Patty. Patty is a compulsive hoarder and she believes that her compulsive hoarding may have derived from her difficult marriage or even just her love to shop. She purchases items very often and in large quantities and usually just leaves them in the bags they came in with the tags still on them. This hoarding became so remarkably unsanitary that her two children were moved to their grandparent’s house. As a result, Patty allowed a cleaning crew to fix up her place in an effort to get her kids back. After three days they completed the task and Patty was absolutely grateful that she went through with it. Unfortunately, the authorities didn’t believe she had her hoarding under control and did not allow her children to return home. He collects tools, how-to magazines, construction supplies, and many other things. His wife does not appreciate the disturbing clutter and told him to either clean up or get out. Bill’s daughter, Amelia, is extremely frustrated by her father and finds the clutter absolutely disgusting. She hates just walking through her house to get to the laundry room, but her father allows the conditions of his home get worse. Later on however, Bill brings in a man that sort of counsels him through his compulsive disorder and helps him get through the clutter on his stairs and his dining room table.
