Holli Riebeek, a journalist for NASA, supports action to combat global warming. She wrote the article “Why is Global Warming a Problem?” about why action should be taken to combat global warming. The NASA is the United States government agency responsible for the space program, aeronautics, and aerospace research. In her article, Riebeek explains how global warming is negatively affecting different areas of the globe and how each area is affected uniquely. Some negative effects of global warming provided by this source are increased heat waves, coastal erosion, rising sea level, more erratic rainfall, and droughts. Strengths of the argument are the author provides both positions of the argument and acknowledges that the problem varies in strength. They acknowledge that there is another point of view and that global warming affects areas differently and each case is unique. A weakness of this argument is she uses general language to describe the effects. General language is not concrete and is hard to verify. Strengths in the credibility of this source include its reliability as a recognized American organization with expert sources. Due to NASA’s reputation and reliability the reader can expect that they will publish accurate information to maintain their reputation. By listing expert sources, she proves the information is accurate and the information can be checked. The lack of ability to see and bias are weaknesses in this source. By not having the ability to see, she must use data and findings from other people. This data may be misinterpreted and therefore misrepresented. Since there is some bias, the data presented may be manipulated to support her position; however, she does acknowledge other
