Homegoing houses represent more than just buildings. They represent past family histories, identity, as well as the impact slavery had on families. The houses the characters live in hold the memories and events of the characters as well as their heritage. The Cape Coast Castle symbolizes the horrors of slavery and colonialism. It states here, “You are standing in your past and your future,all at once”(Gyasi 165). The castle represents more than just a physical structure, as it expresses the correlation between history and the legacy of slavery.
