My initial reaction to this case study intervention was of sadness. Carlita is a young woman not much older than me, with children. I know addiction is a decease that affects everyone in the family; it saddens me to hear when children are involved. Carlita has four children and believes that her drug addiction has possibly impaired two of them. She has also lost custody of them; this is process that can definitely affect these children long term. This is a huge if problem within this family. Her children lack parents and stability because of her addiction. An unspoken rule that appears in this family is to put responsibility on others. Carlita’s mother blames her daughter’s addiction on her husband. Carlita did not place her blame on another individual, however she did not own up to. They both seemed to rant about other things to change the topic of addiction, like high school and getting tubes tied. They are good at avoiding confronting issues directly. A treatment issue discussed is Carlita’s resistance to treatment. She had been in rehab twice before this and she stated her resistance to both and how they made her scared. Topics can include her criminal charges, losing her children, the rift it has caused between her and her mother. Treatment discussion can also include how addiction has caused her to loose individuals in her life like her father, husband, and children. Another topic that can be discussed in treatment is Carlita’s need for approval and acceptance. She wanted to prove how perfect she once was. Her monologue about how smart and popular she was in high school and how she could prove it with a transcript is the perfect example of this. This immediately made me wonder if her desire for acceptance and approval was one of the reasons she began dabbling with
