Times where students valued the consequences of cheating over the risk are getting good grades, has seemed to disappear. Nowadays, students are given more than acceptable amounts of homework each night, leaving them with only one option of cheating for accomplishing the heavy workload given by teachers. Before, students looked at cheating and plagiarism as something only done by the rebellious students. Today, almost every student admitted to cheating at some point during his or her life. Students are held to a much higher standard nowadays, increasing the amount of homework a student is required to complete is directly resulting in the upsurge of amount of cheating occurring by students. “2007 MetLife study found that 45% of students in grades three to 12 spend more than an hour a night doing homework, including six percent of students who report spending more than three hours a night on homework” (Ryan). This statistic is alarming, students who already spend on average six hours each day in school are expected to put hours of additional time into homework, and …show more content…
It can take many forms, including sharing another’s work, purchasing term paper or test questions, or paying another to do work for you. Many students are unaware that cheating to help them accomplish their workload in a faster and more efficient manner subsequently has negative ramifications on them in the long run. Statistics show that “ 73% of all test takers, including prospective graduate students and teachers agree that most students do cheat at some point. 86% of high school students agreed” (Research Center). Today cheating, no longer carries the stigma that it used to. Students no longer equate cheating as being a negative event as they had in the past.
