Sergeant Major Morris never tell us what he wished for or the first two wishes of the first owner. We only know that his last wish was for death. Continuing throughout the story, the suspense is built on the outcome of the wishes being made because Morris said that they would not be fortunate. After Herbert dies the suspense builds on what they will wish for and what the outcome will be. At the end of the story, when Mr. White is jostling looking for the monkeys paw and Mrs. White is getting the chair to unlock the door the suspense gains substantially while the reader wonders if she will unlock the door and if Herbert will be there. There is also suspense surrounding if Mr. White will find the monkeys paw. Throughout the story the plot is tied with many characteristics that any horror story fanatic would die for. From the frightening setting to the spine-chilling suspense "The Monkeys Paw" unquestionably meets the qualifications of a horror story. With all of the attributes that I have mentioned previously that mentioned earlier all facts point "The Monkeys Paw" being a classic horror
