People have soaked in hot tubs since Ancient times. The Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians alike understood the many health benefits that hot water soaking in spas provided them. The word “spa” derives from the Latin phrase, “salus per aquam.” This actually translates to “health from water.” New York’s Mohawk tribe also knew these advantages, and would visit a nearby hot spring they called “Sarasota”. This name loosely translates to “rocky place of miracle water.”
Before portable hot tubs were invented, people visited natural hot springs all across the country to seek out the relaxing therapy this hot water allowed. Since then, hot tubs have developed quite drastically, more recently being available as portable and inflatable hot tubs. Though they don’t have the natural minerals that these hot springs had, modern hot tubs address the three main factors that made the hot springs so helpful in the first place.
