These aspects are what started the trend for hourly bedside rounding in order to provide safety and adequate health care to all clients. Evidence based practice has proven that hourly bedside rounding reduces call bell usage due to being in the room more often; improves patient safety such as a decrease in falls; reduces pressure ulcers by maintaining regular turning and repositioning schedules; increases patient satisfaction due to more direct and frequent care; and increases provider satisfaction because it optimizes shift time utilization (Ford, 2011). Hourly rounding is about engaging the patients, assessing their needs, accomplishing tasks, providing a safe environment, and establishing a productive work shift.
