Although it started off as a rubber substance for WW2, silly putty’s journey had much more planned than being in war. Later on, growing into a stress reliever and tool that had many uses. People of all ages use it on a day-to-day basis and will continue to use it. Even though many dismay the use of silly putty, it has been used in World War 2, to relieve stress, and as a tool for various projects. During World War 2, silly putty became a great rubber replacement due to its strength and moldability. In the long run, it was unable to be used during war but became something people still use today. In the year 1943, James Wright invented silly putty, also known as nutty putty, mimicking the feeling of rubber. As stated in the Museum of Art, “When the Japanese invasion of Asia threatened Americas rubber supply during WW2, chemists at General Electric began looking for a synthetic substance, James Wright stumbled upon an odd conduction: a stretchy material that withstood decay and bounced 25% higher than rubber.” James Wright had accidentally created this new material while trying to invent a substitute for rubber, not realizing how much of an impact it was about to make. …show more content…
