My involvement with DECA and the competitive events began my freshman year in my business class. Little did I know just how far it was going to take me. DECA is an international organization that prepares students for the business world in numerous and varying categories ranging from fashion and merchandising, automobile production, to my section of business service management. It was three years ago that I began competing independently and since then I have secured four district championships, claimed a two time state championship position, and participated in the highest level of completion to receive the international award of excellence twice, and to be ranked with in the top twenty marketing students globally as an international finalist.
From the beginning of my DECA experience I have been consumed by a fervent desire to learn and to discover as much information as possible concerning professionalism and leadership. But when my course schedule did not allow time for another year of business classes I took the challenge independently to discover and learn from my own research and extra studies. The competitive nature of the events was, and continues to be, the ideal environment to foster my aspirations both in DECA events and career choices. With DECA acting as the initiative behind my career exploration and growth, I began to enjoy and become extremely involved with professionalism,
