There were a few reasons that Colonial America was democratic. First of all, the colonists were given the right to vote. If you fit the requirements, you could vote for certain government officials (Doc 3). Legislative groups made up of chosen representatives from the colonies, made laws for the colonies to follow (Doc 6). Also, religious freedom was starting to be established in the colonies, at least for the Christians in Colonial America (Doc 1). One reason is that there were so many requirements for voting that most of the people in America didn’t have that right (Doc 2). This leads me into my next point, there were many people in Colonial America that were denied many basic rights and freedoms. Women at this time couldn’t even have custody of their children in the case of divorce (Doc 4). However, the people with the least amount would have to be the slaves. Slaves could not learn to read and write, and they’re whole life was run by their masters (Doc
