How Did Cabeza Survive

Traveling 2500 miles through desert and mountains, and worried about cannibalism. Lets just say your fighting for your breath. Spring of 1527, five Spanish ships went on a long expedition to uncover gold and establish settlements. After two months, they had arrived in Apalachee Bay with no ships in sight, no treasure and little food. The goal had become survival rather than gold and colonization. In a matter of days, 250 men became 80. And, within months the number dropped to 18 and then, there were four. One of those four was Cabeza. So, Cabeza De Vaca, how did he survive? Well, Cabeza survived because of wilderness skills, success as a healer, and respect for Native Americans.
Cabeza survived because of his success as a healer. “And two days later, I removed the two stitches from the Indian and he was healed” (Document C). “And this cure gave us a very great reputation among them throughout the whole land” (Document C). Both of these connect the thesis and evidence together. Vaca was very great that he healed the man by pulling the arrow out with his knife! Also, since this gave the four of them a reputation, they were probably able to recieve things in return for saving people’s lives. Vaca was very lucky and had constant miracles that he survived so well and was gifted with a lot of skills. If you have a family where they are constantly in the hospital but so much luck has come to you that they survive, then that is kind of like this. You might think that your relative is going to pass away, but a miracle worker comes and they survive. Then, it happens over and over again. You think Cabeza is going to die, but that miracle worker just keeps coming. Cabeza had found refuge. If you were Cabeza, would you have just given up or fight through and
