Dorothea Dix making her impact on the Civil War Dorothea Dix was very important to the Civil war because she helped find cures and medicine to help the injured and the mentally wounded. If it wasn't for her, there may have been more casualties. She was an inspiration to a lot of women to help show that you can work in a field that is mostly run by men and show them up. Even after the war she toured many hospitals to try and help others until she couldn't even help herself anymore and passed away. She also helped to show that it doesn't matter where you come from, but how you can make a bad situation better. Even though she was more of a union nurse, she did also help the confederates, that really showed maturity and it really helped to gain
