High class womens clothing from the renaissance era has changed over the years, whether from influence or time. Most of the clothing were important as they were used to represent your social class. Each social class had certain things that they were allowed to wear (different in each class). Queen Elizabeth I was considered a fashion icon. She had a large amount of influence on fashion as well as the people. Queen Elizabeth I was a fashion icon for both men and women. At the beginning of Elizabeth reign women wore dresses that covered them from head to toe. Frilled collars became more complex which evolved into the Elizabethan ruffs. Ruffs design then changed into more of a \eminine and seductive look, by opening up the ruffs at the collar to expose more of the neck and collar. The restrictions for women clothing by Elizabeth were :Purple silk: for Queen, king and their family members. Velvet: Colors crimson and scarlet are for highest nobility, dukes, marquises and earls. Tinseled cloth: Cloth woven with gold or sliver that is tinsel are for nobility in dodging viscounts and barons. Gold,sliver, or pearl embroidery:for dukes, marquises, earls, and their children, viscounts, barons, and knight of the garter. Lynx and civet cat fur: For above nobility including wives of men who can make 100 by the year. Enameled Buttons,Chains and etc: For above nobility including wives of barons sons and wives of knights. Silk, satin, and damsel: For above and including knights
