John Brown did many good and bad things throughout his life. He was born in Torrington, Connecticut on May 9, 1800. He was born in a Calvinist house and went on to have his own large family. Facing many other things, he was also an ardent abolitionist who also worked for the Underground Railroad. Brown believed that violence was a way to end slavery. With having the intent of inspiring a slave insurrection, which led to a very unsuccessful raid on the Harpers Ferry federal armory. He was then executed on December 2, 1859. Brown helped out with the Underground Railroad for a good portion of his life. He eventually gave land to free African Americans and established the League of Gileadites. The League of Gileadites
