Hernan Cortez, a man of great valor conquered the most advanced empire of Mexico in August 13, 1521. He was destined to gain land and riches as did General Diego Velasquez, when he conquered Cuba in 1511. The golden price was a city built as an island in the middle of a lake, Tenochtitlan. Ruled by Chief Montecuhzoma an Aztec, the city of Tenochtitlan had expanded and taken control of the surrounding territories. After pledging his possessions to fund the expedition, General Hernan Cortez made landing in Conzumel, Mexico on February 18, 1519.
