The potato chip was invented by George Crum. Crum was born George Speck to a Native American mother and an African-American father. His father was a horse jockey, and while he was a youth, George took his father’s horse racing name, Crum. George later moved to Saratoga Springs, New York, and began cooking. He was then hired by Cary Moon to work at his restaurant, called Moon’s Lake House. The famous chip was actually invented by accident.
