Knowing Douglass’ intelligence and accomplishments, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott invited Frederick Douglass to be the only African-American at the Seneca Falls Convention for Women’s Rights. (“State of Oregon: Woman Suffrage - Frederick Douglass (1818-1895)”) Even though Douglass had to face harsh racism on a daily basis he managed to escape slavery and became an intelligent, respectful man. Frederick Douglas is remembered today for being able to escape slavery and educate himself to become a successful abolitionist. Larry Doby was the 2nd black baseball player in the MLB, which is why he will be the 3rd and final person I will talk about in this paper. Throughout Doby’s 13 seasons in the MLB he collected 1515 hits, 253 home runs, 970 RBI’s, and a 60.4 WAR over 1533 games played. Mr. Doby was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1998, just 5 years before his death in 2003.
