During an attack on a hill occupied by Germans he and his men overran the German position but sustained heavy casualties. Out of the 40 something men that accompanied him up the hill he was left with a small handful of men most of which were injured. He and those men fought off the German counterattack until they ran out of ammo; Jack Churchill then pulled out his pipes and started playing “Will ye no come back again”. After the German’s overran his position he was taken prisoner. Luckily for him Captain Thuener of the Wehrmacht refused to turn him and his commandos over to the Gestapo, “You are a solder, as I am,” said the captain to Churchill. ”I refuse to allow these civilian butchers to deal with you. I shall say nothing of having received this order.” After the war Jack Churchill was able to personally thank Thuener and help him stay out of the cruel hands of the Russians. In conclusion I chose John Malcolm Thorpe Fleming Churchill or “Jack Churchill”, due to the amazing and almost unreal achievements he committed during his limited time in WWII. He is not a person all together lost in time but I feel he deserves more recognition than he received. I feel he would have been more known if he had not gotten captured and imprisoned for a good part of the war but being less known doesn’t make him any less of a hero. I feel I am similar in a few ways as if I’m going to do something I’m going 110mph so I’m dedicated but he was so
