Junior did not turn his back on his people. He is not a trader because he only wanted to get a better education and Mr.P helped him realize that to go somewhere in live he needed to get off the reservation. Junior did not want to end up dying of alcoholism like everyone else eventually does on the reservation. Almost all the people that lived on the spokane indian reservation though junior had betrayed them and chose white people over them. They all felt this way about him because he wanted to go to a school in town full of white farmers. Instead of a school on the reservation, because junior knew he would have a better chance of doing something with his life if he changed schools. The people on the reservation felt that Junior had picked the white people over them, they felt that he chose someone else over his own people.
